Quantum computers, cryptocurrencies, chat bots: digitization goes hand in hand with numerous technical terms. But many cannot keep up with the ever-expanding dictionary of digitization. 75% of Germans have never heard of the Metaverse. While 15% have heard the term before, only 4% dare to explain it.
Even Web3 and blockchain are still a mystery to many: only 2% can explain Web3. With blockchain, 13 percent feel able to introduce the term to their interlocutors. Things are better for cloud computing and artificial intelligence: one in two people can explain both terms (cloud computing 55%; AI 52%). This is what emerges from a representative survey of the population on the occasion of the third National Digital Day, as reported by the “Digital for All” initiative.
“The metaverse is currently still unknown to many people. To make the buzzwords of digitization understandable to everyone, we created the digital day, a day of action that allows you to discover and experience digitization at a very low threshold”, says Anna-Lena Hosenfeld, Managing Director of “Digital for everyone”. The initiative brings together 28 organizations from civil society, culture, science, business, welfare and the public sector with the aim of promoting digital participation in Germany.
